What’s an LTE?
A letter to the editor (LTE) is a way for Missourians to have their own words, thoughts, and feelings communicated to a wider audience. These are typically published by the editors of the outlet you submit your writing to.
LTEs are a tremendous way of communicating the faults with Amendment 4, the direct impact on our state’s voting laws, and urging neighbors and communities to vote no on August 4th. We hope this guide helps you!
Best Practices
Introduce yourself and set the stage.
Include your name, where you are writing from, and any relevant details.
Why is Amendment 4 important to you and your community?
Include personal details about your situation or how Amendment 4 will silence you or your family..
Show, don’t tell.
Have facts, figures and examples to point to.
Get specific with how this would impact you or your community.
Write in “I can point to this example” terms.
Don’t talk of love, show me.
Finish the sentence!
Don’t just wrap with “Vote no on A4”, have a direct call to action.
How can you get your community involved in voting this amendment down? No idea what that is? Here’s some examples:
Tell our politicians that majority rule needs to stay law for Missourians by voting no on A4 this August 4th!
Join [enter organization // event] for their upcoming action!
No more than 250 words– try and be succinct!
